Mary Ellen Shea (Mellen)

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Mary Ellen Shea (Mellen). She was a very competitive skijor racer, Iditarod veteran, was on the ground floor planning for Norman's Serum Run after the idea was passed to him from Joe Redington. She served as the Vice President of the Serum '25 Run board and participated in the event from 1997 through 2002. Along with Col Vaughan, she is this years Serum "25" Run Honorary Musher. There is an article of her passing at Anchorage daily news and our web site has links to her status page and local news casts. 6 of her dogs are running with the group this year.

This picture was taken the day after Mellen passed away.
Kurt had not heard that Mellen was gone but told everyone that the dogs had the best day of the trip.
The sun was shining -- no doubt Mellen was with them that day.
