Daniel Thomas Daigle, 68, of Salcha, passed away Mon. Aug. 24.
Daniel was born Feb. 16, 1947, in Fittchburg, Massachusetts.
In 1965, Dan married the love of his life, Jan, who he is survived by.
After graduating and serving in the Navy during the Vietnam War (1965-69), Dan moved his family to New Hampshire, where he opened and operated his own tire and auto shop for several years.
Dan had a love for dog mushing and flying, which is what brought him to Alaska in 1990 but his true passion later became hunting and fishing with his grandchildren.
He took every opportunity to take them out.
Dan was a sergeant in the CVEO division with the state of Alaska for the last 16 years and was a member of the APOA.
He had a helping hand for anyone he encountered.
Dan and Jan recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He will be missed by all.
He is survived by his wife, Janet M. Daigle, of Salcha; Daughters, Monique (Danny) Slongwhite, of North Pole, and Wendy (Clem) Hamilton, of Laconia, New Hampshire;
Grandsons, Connor (Julia) Hamilton, of Camp Pendleton Marine Base, California, Ethan (Kimberly) Slongwhite, of Marine Corps Air Station Mirimar, California,
Evan Slongwhite, of North Pole; Granddaughter, Rylee Slongwhite of North Pole; Great Granddaughter, Emma Slongwhite, of Marine Corps Air Station Mirimar,
and his beloved pets, Ruger and Abby.
He is preceded in death by his father, Harvey A. Daigle; Mother Lorraine Frank Daigle; Brothers, David Daigle, Ronald Daigle and Gary Daigle.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 3, from 7-9 p.m. at Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions can be made to the National Diabetes Association.
