Cue Bifelt of Huslia

1929-2012

2/23/12
From the Fairbanks News-Miner

Our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend Cue Bifelt, 82, peacefully entered into heaven Feb. 21, 2012, surrounded by his family and friends in Huslia.

Our father was born April 30, 1929, near Hughes to Fred and Helen Bifelt. At the passing of his mother at a young age, he rarely left his father's side. Because of this he learned life long lessons about respecting the land, animals and waterways - this he passed on to his family.

On June 26, 1948, he married our mother, Madeline Bergman, in a fish camp above Hughes. Upon moving to Huslia (Cut-off) they raised 14 children.

Our father was a firm believer in his own style and never was afraid to speak his peace. His love for dog mushing brought him to many villages. In 1960, he won the Fur Rendezvous and Open North American. His passion for riverways lead to many years as a captain on Taku Chief, which brought him across Alaska's vastness. In his later years he assisted Sam Brice's "Beverly B" in the Interior and the lower Yukon.

Our dad was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Helen; his beloved wife Madeline; his children Harold, Delores Ann, Edgar Clinton, Archie Phillip and Ralph Christopher; and his grandchildren Kevin Kayotuk and Wilfred Bifelt Kayotuk.

He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Annie Vent, Henry Beatus, Marion Bifelt, James Bifelt, Ethel Wintter, Arla Stickman, Clyde Bifelt, Paula Bifelt and their families; his children Isabelle and (Frankie), Charlotte (Leanord), Margaret (Wilmer), Fred Lee (Audrey), Hugh (Janet), Darlene (Hank), Vivian, Laberta (Allen), Helena (Rick), Ricko, Craig and (Felicia); and his great-granddaughter Serenity Maddi-Lynn, whom he could not go without. Serenity was blessed to have her "Pop-pop." They were like two peas in a pod. They had their own relationship nobody was able to touch. His last words to her were "Kisses Claagaa'." In his own way, he always made sure she was all right.
Our family praises Craig, Felicia and Serenity for caring for him in his home. It was his wish to peacefully pass in Huslia surrounded by those who knew him best.

Also special thanks to Killian Lolnitz and his sister, Marion Bifelt. Many thanks to all those who helped out our family so we could put our father away in such a beautiful way. May the good Lord bless each and everyone of you for your acts of kindness.
The funeral service will be at noon today, Feb. 23, 2012, at the Huslia Community Hall.

He will be laid to rest next to his wife Madeline at the Huslia Cemetery.
