IFSS General Assembly June 8 & 9, 2012
The International Federation of Sleddog Sports (IFSS) held its bi-annual General Assembly on June 8 and 9 near the city of Oslo (Norway). 25 organizations from 21 countries were represented. The IFSS Council also held its traditionally pre and post GA meetings during the weekend. The European Sled Dog Racing Association (ESDRA) had planned its annual Congress to follow immediately the IFSS GA. The meetings were hosted by the Norwegian Sleddog sport organization (NHF) who had arranged for meeting rooms and a succulent dinner on Saturday evening. The reports of the various Committee members and of the Committees were presented to the delegates. The Irish Federation of Sleddog Sports (Irish FSS) was unanimously accepted as a new Voting Member representing Ireland. The Irish FSS was previously an IFSS Provisional Member. Upon review of the accounts, the Council was exonerated by the Assembly. Several changes to the By Laws were proposed and accepted by the delegates with a large majority. Among these changes it should be noted that: · The Founding Members (ESDRA and ISDRA) become Observers without voting rights. · The structure of the Council is modified: i) The Vice President of Institutional Affairs is replaced by a Vice President of Economic Affairs ii) The 9 Regional Directors are replaced by 6 Continental Directors with more responsibilities (Continental Championships and Continental Cup) iii) The Athletes are represented in the Council by a delegate iv) The regulations governing the World Championships will be approved by the members (instead of the Council). v) The following executives were elected: (a) President: Bengt Ponten (Sweden) (b) Vice President of Sport: Helen Lundberg (USA) (c) Vice President of Development: Arild Eidsvold (Norway) (d) Vice President of Economic Affairs: Christian Haeberli (Switzerland) vi) The Continental Directors shall be elected by the respective countries in the Continent within 3 months. vii) The Athletes delegate will be elected among the members of the Athletes Committee designated by the Continental Directors. viii) The Legal Commission members have been reelected in their positions · The various elected and appointed positions are described in an annex to the By Laws. During the Council meetings the bid from North Pole (Alaska) to organize the winter World Championships 2013 was approved and the classes, which will be awarded, decided. Bernard Pépin was appointed Executive Director in charge of the administration and of the implementation of the IFSS office in Europe. Bengt Ponten took that opportunity to warmly thank Sally Bair for the work she has done during these past years as Secretary General, also often representing efficiently IFSS at the SportAccord meetings. He also thanked the Regional Directors for their contribution to the good working and development of IFSS. They will remain in office until the corresponding Continental Directors are elected.
