Mid-Distance Sled Dog Race Veterinarian Support Needed

Alaskan Mid-Distance Sled Dog Race Veterinarian Support Needed

The Mat Su Valley is home to several mid-distance sled dog races. Several veterinarians have donated their time and talents for years.

If you are a veterinarian that would like to help support one of these races, we’d love to hear from you. We are particularly recruiting volunteers for the following races:

The Sheep Mt. 150
The Northern Lights 300
The Don Bowers Memorial Sleddog Race (100/200/300)
The Tug Bar 150
The Knik 200.

All of these races are Iditarod and Yukon Quest qualifiers.

We will provide your veterinary equipment, formulary, and supply boxes for these races. A written inventory of these supplies will be available prior to the race. Transportation and lodging on the race trail is provided. Some of the races involve remote checkpoints, some are on the road system.

The shorter races are run on weekends, the longer races run Friday through Monday.

You can volunteer for pre-race vet checks, checkpoints, or race finishes and be involved in all or part of the race.

Experienced race volunteers are available before and during the race to assist you as needed.
