National Skijoring Championship Purse Confirmed

National Skijoring Championship Purse Confirmed

Skijor USA is proud to announce the purse for the first annual National Skijoring Championship has been confirmed at $1,200.00. The purse will be split evenly among female and male competitors in skijoring one and two dog championship classes. Major sponsor Chuck and Don's Pet Food Outlet is also contributing $750.00 in gift certificates to be awarded to top Sport and Novice class finishers.

The championship events will be held in Minneapolis, Minnesota on February 5th and 6th, 2011. On Saturday, February 5th, the 7k two dog championship mass start event will take place on the popular Lake of the Isles course and finish in Minneapolis' trendy Uptown area; on Sunday, February 6th, the 14k one dog championship (interval start) will take place at Theodore Wirth Park in Minneapolis using the same course planned for the 2011 National Junior Olympics.

A Combined Championship title will be awarded to the female and male skijorer having the lowest combined time over the two days of racing (dog raced on day two must have completed the race on day one).

Following the start of the championship race on Saturday, the 4k Sport and 2.5k Novice classes will begin once the championship field has completed their first lap and exited the start area.

Last year's event, the largest in the world and precursor to this year's championships, attracted 123 skijoring teams and nearly 3,000 spectators. Kevin Murphy, race director of the event for nearly a decade, expects the record to be broken based on preregistration numbers.

Details including classes, awards, course maps and registration information can be found by visiting skijorusa.org   and cityoflakesloppet.com
