The Canadian Premiere of ‘UNDERDOG’ will air this Sunday on OLN
This Sunday (Sept. 19) at 10:00 PM, the Outdoor Life Network (OLN) will broadcast the Canadian premiere of ‘UNDERDOG’.
This 60-minute special was filmed in 2009 and is an intimate profile of Jamaica Dogsled Team (JDT) musher Newton Marshall and his journey from Jamaica to the finish line of the Yukon Quest.
The film features amazing footage from the Yukon Quest, one of the world’s premiere sled dog races, and features other Yukon Quest mushers including 2010 champion Hans Gatt; who trained Marshall as he prepared for the 2009 race.
The film provides an intimate look at the race from a musher’s perspective and is must-see-TV for fans of sled dog racing as well as anyone looking for a story of true perseverance despite the odds.
“We think this film has done an incredible job of capturing the challenges and thrills of the Yukon Quest,” said Danny Melville, Founder and Manager of the JDT. “I had the opportunity to watch a special screening of the film last year and am excited that it is finally being broadcast to a much larger audience. I can’t wait to see it again!”
The JDT has an exciting year ahead. Marshall is one of three mushers who will be racing for the team this winter. Damion Robb and newcomer, Jermain Burford will be taking part in sprint races in Ontario and the US. This fall will see the release of a new book by John Firth, titled “One Mush” as well as a new documentary following Marshall during his completion of the 2010 Iditarod, titled “Cool Mushings”.
Sales from both the book and “Cool Mushings” will help the team raise funds for the 2011 season. Another way fans can show their support is by purchasing 2011 “Rootin’ for Newton” t-shirts and other gear through the JDT website.
JDT sponsors include: Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville, Chukka Caribbean Adventures, WestJet Vacations, Alpine Aviation, Northern Lights Optometry, Cottey College, Annamaet Petfoods and the Jamaica Tourist Board.
