(Duluth, MN) The John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon is honored to host Jeff King, Iditarod Champion, as the guest speaker at the Annual Beargrease Gala Dinner on January 28, 2011.

Jeff King is recognized as the "Winningest Musher in the World". During the past 20 years, Jeff has logged more than 100,000 miles on a dog sled. His website is http://www.huskyhomestead.com/

The 28th Running of the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon events will take place Jan 28th thru Feb 3rd, 2011.

“Beargrease welcomes Alaska’s premiere champion to Minnesota,” says Linda Nervick of Beargrease, “we look forward to a great presentation.”

The Beargrease organizers anticipate a full race with teams from around the world. Currently there are 26 marathon teams registered with only 4 remaining registrations available and 44 mid distance teams registered with 6 remaining registrations available.

John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon is the longest running race in the lower 48 states. The 390 mile course of rugged, awesome scenery winds its way up the North Shore of Lake Superior and into the primal wilderness along the Canadian border. This race commemorates the courage and endurance of John Beargrease, the intrepid Chippewa dog-driver who carried the U.S. mail to outposts along the North Shore of Lake Superior in the late 1800’s.

Beargrease checkpoints are uniquely accessible to the public. Beargrease fans and Lake Superior’s North Shore visitors can drive to the checkpoints to experience the race excitement around the clock at the Two Harbors, Beaver Bay, Finland, Sawbill, Trail Center and Devil Track Lodge checkpoints throughout the race.
