Insight into early
Iditarods from Joe May Innovations
Always an innovator, Joe says "that was before straw was shipped out on the trail for bedding. I sent burlap sandbags out with my feed to bed dogs on. Sugar was a leader on loan from Donna Gentry and somewhat short coated and I recall Rhone was a deep freeze. I made her the coat from one of the sandbags. Was possibly the first bedding (other than spruce boughs) and dog coat used on the Iditarod." S/Joe May top of page | home | feedback | search |
