What do you get when you combine a couple of Old English Sheepdogs, a Blue Tick Coonhound, a Samoyed & a Lab/Poodle?

A Nontraditional Dog Team!!

I have an Old English Sheepdog (Chewie) who carts and sleds. We got recruited by some Samoyed friends to try this. He is 4 yrs now, and has been doing this for the last 2 yrs.

Out this spring carting on area roads.

We started carting, then transitioned to sledding in the winter. I'm in Southern Minnesota, and use the lake behind our house and our land to sled on, gravel roads to cart on.

We have gone out to North Dakota and carted and sledded with Helen Corlew and her Prairie Isle Dog Trekking group, as one of our local Sammie friends has a dog from her.

Chewie will run in any position, but excels in running lead - double or single. He has a very strong work ethic!

Chewie is a talented boy - he is both an AKC and UKC show champion, highest ranked OES in the nation in AKC rally combined obedience (RAE) for 2009, weight pull titles with 2 organizations (only OES with either to title), is competing now in agility, and has been a therapy dog w/TDI for 3 years. He also herds and backpacks.

Other dogs in our "team" are my husband, Todd's Blue Tick Coonhound, Maggie; Chewie's sister Martha (owned by LeAnne Steinke); Samoyed Gabby (owned by Linda and Donaven Murray); and lab/poodle Abby (owned by Lynne Holmgren).
