Mentor Program

The Sled Dog Central Mentor Program provides a unique opportunity for you to learn directly from an experienced musher.

As you use this program, I hope both mentors and beginners will offer feedback.   We want it to work for both sides.  Send your suggestions and comments here

Guidelines

  • Review the Mentor List carefully to identify a mentor that matches your needs, not only geographically, but in mutual areas of interest and method of mentoring offered.  For example, don't pick an e-mail mentor if you prefer phone conversations.

  • Initially you may need to talk or correspond with more than one mentor to find a "personality match," but please don't "shotgun" the mentor list.  Be selective in the contacts you make.

  • Once you choose a mentor we strongly recommend that you stick with them for a period of time.   Different mushers do things in different ways.  No one way is "right" or "wrong," they're just different.  If you work with more than one mentor at a time, you will  end up being confused.

  • Be respectful of your mentor's time.  All of the mentors are active mushers with teams to train and things to do.
