X-Ray Machine for Northwest AK Pets
The Community of Nome, Alaska is in need of an X-Ray machine in order to diagnose and help pets in their area. Nome participates in the Iditarod by housing mushers and their dogs, providing volunteers for the race, and services for people in town and those spectating the race. The Iditarod is a massive event in Nome and takes over the town for several weeks each winter. They have a traveling vet who came up to support the Iditarod several years ago and fell in love with it, now he comes back each month for a short visit and to host a clinic for the animals in Nome
Nome has a pet store and boarding kennel in town called the Animal House that provides pet clinics, dental checkups, spaying and neutering, shots, and minor examinations periodically; but for any serious injuries or conditions the animals have to be medivaced down to Anchorage, which is a 1.5 hour flight! An x-ray machine would help the vet tech at the Animal house to more accurately diagnose injured animals and enable care to be given in a more expedient manner when they arrive in Anchorage.
The total cost of the x-ray machine equipment and installation is $67,000 and Nome is a community of 3,500 people. Nome currently is $22,000 away from the goal and there is a donor matching funds up to $15,000. If you would like to help support Nome and the Animal House please click on this link
