UP 200 Dryland Dash coming to Negaunee Township
The annual UP 200 Dryland Dash is coming up Saturday and Sunday, October 12-13, in Negaunee Township. It's your chance to see how sled dogs run when there is no snow.
The event is a competitive race with a purse of $2,000. In addition to the competition, it also serves as training for the dogs and their owners. Classes for the event include 4 and 6 dog rigs, 1 and 2 dog bikejor and canicross. The event is great for spectators too as the dog teams really move fast.
"They do have very fast speeds, some of them are almost twice as fast as what we see in the winter races so it's a really neat way to get a glimpse of what may be happening later on in the season in kind of a compressed environment because it is a faster event and it's very exciting," said President of the U.P. Sled Dog Association, Darlene Walch.
