Trailbreakers host dryland dog sled challenge
The Trailbreakers Sled Dog Club of Ohio held a dryland dog sled challenge on Saturday and Sunday.
The race was at Frank Brothers Landscape Supply at 9718 Avon Lake Road. The course was 2.2 miles through fields and woods behind the facility, with a 1.1-mile course for the junior class. Race marshal Chris Seminatore said the club has been operating since 1965.
“It mostly started out with show dog teams, and then some of those teams wanted to run sled in the tradition of the Iditarod," he said. "As we step forward through time, and we evolve through changing weather patterns in Ohio and things like that, we have less snow and different ways of training.”
Seminatore said there are several ways to train and participate in dryland challenges, the most popular being riding bicycles, scooters, a three-wheeled rig or running with a dog.
