Dirt Rondy Dryland Race, November 2/3, 2019 - Spokane, WA
Spokane Dirt Rondy
My name is Travis Vonder Haar, an employee here at Sled Dog Central, and This weekend I had the awesome opportunity to attend and volunteer for the Inland Empire Sled Dog Association's annual Dirt Rondy. It took place November 2nd and 3rd at Spokane Riverside State Park at the Seven Mile Airstrip.
When I arrived at 8am that morning there was a good crowd that had set up at the airstrip and things were getting prepared to get started. It was especially chilly this October, so race officials took great care with planning out the race routes for the safety of the racers.
Coming to the Dirt Rondy I got to see many different Dryland events that I had not witnessed before. They ran several different types of events, but the two that took my interest were Scooter and Cannicross. Personally, I got to volunteer on the course directing the racers and it was a lot of fun. Observing the bond between owner and dog and how they responded to each other was amazing. Seeing the athleticism and discipline in the various teams showed how much work and effort had gone into their training for these races and how powerful these dogs were! It was fun to watch the teams race and I would definitely recommend attending an event to those that are interested!
