In the world of dog sledding, fresh snow and cold temperatures get teams excited. The Eden Dog Sledding team races mostly in Canada. When the team is not racing competitively, they are giving tours on hundreds of acres of groomed and ungroomed trails.
This time of year, we're used to hearing about reindeer pulling Santa's sleigh, but at Eden Dog Sledding, they are promoting a different kind of sleigh, one that’s pulled by dogs.
Move over Dasher, Dancer, Vixen and Rudolph, the stars here are Tuna, Maski, Jersey and Bandit. Collecting all 10 dogs is quite the process. First, there is a roll call, where the driver of the sled has to collect all 10 dogs. Then, the dogs need to have the harnesses put on them. Finally, they get harnessed outside and connected to each other.
Manager Jim Blair does one more check and over the hills they go, barking all the way. It's dog gone cold, so don't forget the blankets and get tucked in like a baby in a manger.
Melissa Ricci was happy to see Vermont covered in snow. This is her first time in the state and she's here celebrating her birthday. She found Eden Dog Sledding online and was excited to meet the dogs.
“We don’t really ski so why not go dog sledding,” Melissa Ricci said.
The ride itself if peaceful. The impressive part is seeing the dogs in action and feeling the power they are able to create in the snow.
