PenAir sale could impact Iditarod's finances
The sale of PenAir could impact the finances of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race with the potential loss of a major sponsor.
Danny Seybert, the chief executive officer of PenAir who is also the Iditarod Trail Committee’s vice president, spoke Monday about the airline cutting ties with the race.
"If the Seybert family maintains control of the airline, no. If someone else owns the company then they can do what they wish for it,” he said.
PenAir is currently a “lead dog” sponsor of Iditarod, the second highest tier of sponsorship on par with major corporate sponsors like Northern Air Cargo, Northrim Bank and Matson.
Stan Hooley, the Iditarod CEO, said losing PenAir would cause some “budgetary adjustments” for the race. Citing longstanding policy, Hooley would not disclose the dollar figure that the PenAir sponsorship brings to Iditarod.
