Madison Twp native Neese climbing ranks of top mushers
Neese, a 21-year-old Madison Township native, continues to climb up the ranks of the best mushers in North America. Neese, who now lives in northern Michigan, is home in Licking County this week for the first time since placing third in the Yukon Quest.
Neese will speak at 7 p.m. Friday at Founders Hall. Attending is free, but a small donation is encouraged.
The Yukon Quest is a 1,000-mile race from Whitehorse, Canada, to Anchorage, Alaska. Neese, who competed in the Iditarod in 2017, was competing for the third time in the Yukon Quest and with her dog Maple leading the way, raced to the front after placing 13th out of 23 finishers in 2016 and withdrawing a year ago.
"At the post-race meetings and banquets, you could see a difference like, 'Whoa! This isn't just a little young whipper-snapper coming up from Michigan to try running the Yukon Quest,'" Neese said. "There is starting to be a change there. I am just fortunate to have a truly incredible and talented dog team. It's awesome."
