Lake Minnetonka Klondike Dog Derby Course Updated
The course for the Sunday, Feb. 9
Lake Minnetonka Klondike Dog Derby has been updated and now will pass by Excelsior’s Commons twice, compared with only one-pass previously. This means that spectators in Excelsior will not only get to see the start and finish of the race, but can enjoy viewing teams at the mid-point on their first pass by the Commons, and in the last mile of the race as they pass the Commons again and make their way to the finish line on Water Street.
Additionally, in order to avoid possible distractions and safety issues for the sled dog teams, the trail will no longer include Wayzata Bay, as several vehicles may be on the ice removing structures and items from a preceding event. PLEASE NOTE this means spectators will not be able to experience the race from the shores of Wayzata.
Those planning to attend the race in Excelsior are encouraged to use a free shuttle service that will transport people between Minnetonka Middle School West and Excelsior’s public library from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on race day. For more information, see
