Kearney Dog Sled Race officials cancel 2021 event
Organizers of the Kearney Dog Sled Races have announced they have cancelled the 2021 event which had been scheduled for February.
Announced via their Facebook page, the organizers stated that the cancellation was due in part to the risk presented by COVID-19.
“For our specific event, first and foremost, the reality is that we are hosted by a very small, vulnerable, northern community,” the post said. “It is our ethical obligation to protect the citizens of Kearney in these unprecedented times.”
“It was hard,” said race secretary Kaitlynn Paquette. “We had a good two-hour meeting plus days and days of emails to try and talk about it.”
