Happy hounds hit ground running
More than 120 people and their four-legged friends descended on Kialla for the long weekend to compete at the Northern Victorian Sled-Dog Club Classic.
The event, the largest dry-land sled-dog race in Australasia, started Saturday afternoon.
Club president Scott Bennetts said the event was running 17 classes during the three days, ranging from one dog up to eight-dog teams on distances from 2km up to about 7km.
‘‘Saturday for the night event we had a very clean run, the temperatures were very kind to us to allow us to run on time,’’ Mr Bennetts said.
‘‘We kicked off racing at 7am Sunday and had a crispy one degree at the start line, so there were some very happy dogs.
‘‘We’re still racing tomorrow (Monday), but there has been some movement in the positions in the larger classes of four and six dogs, so the competition is certainly on.’’
