The film,
"Everything It Takes", chronicles not just the days or weeks of preparation required to compete in The Last Great Race, but the months and years of preparation required.
Musher Mary Helwig provides a candid look into the daily routine and long-term commitment required to pursue her dream of racing in the Iditarod. Her love of her dogs and their love to run is visible throughout the film. Go with Mary through the process of daily care and winter training as she prepares not just her team but also herself for what will be almost fourteen days on the Iditarod trail.
With a very small budget and many hours of dedication, filmmaker Jennifer Hawks presents us with a compelling story of a rookie musher making it to the starting line and the finish line of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race amidst one of the most difficult challenges of life, to have lost everything to a wildfire.
