Dryland Dogs brings 'urban mushing' to Meridian
It might sound strange to hook up a dog to a scooter and use his momentum to propel yourself forward — but when you see the excitement in Zeus’ eyes, you’ll think again.
Zeus, a Great Dane/Labrador mix, gets much of his exercise by urban mushing, pulling his owner, Mia Gussie, on a scooter behind him.
Gussie is so passionate about the activity that she opened Dryland Dogs in January. The Meridian business provides dog owners with urban mushing equipment and teaches them how to use it.
Urban mushing, or joring, is the activity of harnessing a dog to a person’s waist, a scooter, a bicycle or another non-motorized vehicle.
Gussie said this allows larger dog breeds such as huskies to exercise their natural drive to pull things, instead of expecting them to heel while they walk next to their owner.
