Calumet park gives kids taste of sled dog races
CALUMET, Mich. (WLUC) - The Copper Dog 150 Race Staff hosted mini sled dog rides in Calumet despite snow and cold temperatures.
This is the eighth time Copper Dog 150 has hosted the event for area children.
There were two full sled dog teams on hand for rides and photo opportunities.
The event was totally free and typically hosts 100 to 300 children,
a turnout the Copper Dog 150 team hopes to maintain in coming years.
"Oh I think it's a great event for the children they're so happy when they get on and they may be a little afraid to take the ride but once they're coming off they're pretty excited to have taken a sled dog ride," said Copper Dog 150 Resource Director and Event Organizer Renee Cunningham. "I hope it continues every year and we get the good turn out and just have it every year."
The sled dog rides ran in conjunction with Christmas in Calumet.
The Copper Dog 150 race will take place this March.
