2002 Yukon Fuel Camp Out Race

Dolly Angstman of Bethel won the 2002 Yukon Fuel Camp Out race Sunday March 3rd with a total time of 3:23:5 for the 50 mile course, topping Melvin Egoak by 11 minutes. Angstman won $1,000 for her effort, and Egoak got $850.
There were eleven teams in the event, which started at Bethel, Alaska on Saturday with a non-competitve mush to a designated camp site in the mountains east of Bethel. This year more than fifty people including handlers and spectators, camped at a location known as Corral Creek, site of a former reindeer corral.
The race back to Bethel started Sunday morning with a mass start. Egoak held an early lead but was caught about half way home by Angstman. She became the third member of her family to win the race, along with her sister Sarah and brother Andy.
