Alert: 1/19/2007: The proposed Animal Control Ordinance was defeated on a vote of 20 to 3 at the December 2006 Polk County Board meeting. Most of the credit for this defeat is due to the incredible support of the Wisconsin Bear Hunters whose members showed up meeting after meeting with bodies and voices. 11/7/05 The final public hearing on the proposed Polk County Wisconsin Animal Control Ordinance is set for Nov 9 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Polk County Board Room at the Government Center, Balsam Lake, WI. Minimal publication of the date/location of this hearing (and one in September) means dog owners once again almost missed an opportunity to comment on the 12 page proposed ordinance. This same tactic of little to no publicity was used last spring to minimize the number of people attending. Please pass the word to every dog owner in and around Polk County and ask him or her to attend this important hearing. The ordinance is over-reaching and restrictive. Efforts by our Dog Owners Committee to influence the wording/restrictions in this ordinance were rejected out-of-hand by the Polk County Animal Control Task Force. The proposed ordinance is an effort to impose a metropolitan, AR laced ordinance on our still rural county and it just makes no sense. Please urge your family and all of their friends and all of their friends friends to show up at the public information meeting. Polk County does not need an anti-dog ordinance.
